The Reset I Wasn't Expecting

When I responded to the quiet yes.

A still beach with white sand, teal water and blue sky — a place of quiet and rest

God taught me how to reset in Him in the middle of my stress and rush. The reset I wasn't expecting.

There was a long season — especially while raising our children — when life felt constantly in motion. There were always needs to meet, things to manage, details to remember.

I believed I could do it all. I had always been capable. And I didn't want to let anyone down, so I kept saying yes long after I was tired.

But underneath that capability was something quieter.

A fear of not being enough.

Because as long as everything was moving, I didn't have to sit with that fear. Not even before God.

Until my body wouldn't let me.

I would fall sick and have no choice but to stop. All I could do was sleep.

At first, I saw it as interruption. As weakness. As something to push through once I recovered.

And I did.

But those forced pauses became something sacred.

During my recovery, I would reach for my Bible. I would pull out old journals — pages I hadn't had time for. I would read through what I had written in earlier seasons. I would write again. Something I always said I didn't have time for.

I began to notice a repeated pattern in my journals too.

I often went to them to download what was heavy and write prayers to God.

And then the cycle would begin again.

Rush.
Stress.
People pleasing.
Sickness.
Rest.
Scripture.
Journaling.
Recovery.

This didn't happen once. It unfolded over years.

Somewhere along the way, I started responding differently.

God wasn't offering me a quick fix. He was reshaping me. Teaching me that I didn't have to earn approval — from others or from Him. Teaching me that I could come to Him before my body forced me to stop. He wanted my heart.

Did I trust Him?

The journey with Father requires heart surrender. And it is so worth it when I finally gave it over to Him.

His gentle nudges require that quiet yes. And I'm so glad that I said yes to the journey as it continues.

Are you ready for the quiet yes, or have you taken that step of faith? I would love to hear from you.
